Note: this is book 4 in the series „The Legends of the first Empire“ and all books share a common story arc and can’t be read as standalones. You I recommend to start at the beginning and read the installments in the intended order.ReviewI do like this series a lot. The world building is sound, the characters interesting and the plot takes cool turns that I do mostly not expect. But there is one thing not too cool about LotFE and that is the many passages that add pages to the story, but no content. Meaning the pacing sometimes comes to a near standstill. And the first half of „Age of Legend“ is really not much action and a lot of talk adding nothing substantial. It shows the passage of time, since it starts with the days immediately after the Battle of Alon Rhist, then a two years or so after and then five years after that fact. It does show how the war between Rhunes and Fhrey drags on with no one getting the advantage, but nothing more. And worse: there was nothing about the characters that captured my interest. Mostly no Malcolm, no Persephone (who became a bit uninteresting besides) and a depressed and guilt-ridden Suri.Things get a lot better in the second half of the book, one of those legendary twists that make you catch your breath, but that was nearly ruined for me with the annoying cliffhanger. A really bad one, right in the middle of things. Worse, my kindle told me that I‘m only at 86% when everything was over. I could hardly believe it.But yes, it’s still a wonderful world with a literally legendary plot and I really really want to no how it will all turn out, so I forgive M. Sullivan and will read „Age of Death“ as soon as it’s out (and that title makes a lot more sense now that read „Age of Legend.
